Today, we were joined by fans and friends of Funny Cide for a special Statue Dedication Ceremony at the Kentucky Horse Parkโs iconic Hall of Champions Barn, where Funny Cide spent his retirement and delighted visitors for 15 years.
The ceremony included remarks from Kentucky Horse Park President Lee Carter, Sackatoga Stableโs Jack Knowlton, jockey Jose Santos, and Hall of Champions Manager Rob Willis before the official unveiling of the bronze tribute.
Funny Cide captured the hearts of racing fans across the nation as the first New York-bred gelding to win the Kentucky Derby and the first New York-bred to win the Preakness Stakes, igniting Triple Crown hopes in 2003.
The bronze sculpture was created by artist Shelley Hunter, whose work is also featured along the parkโs Memorial Walk of Champions, including tributes to Alysheba, John Henry, and Staying Together.
Guests visiting the Kentucky Horse Park can now see Funny Cideโs statue outside the Hall of Champions Barn as a lasting tribute to his remarkable career and beloved legacy.
