Mounted Police Horse Loan Program

The Kentucky Horse Park Mounted Police Unit is looking for loan horses, ages 5-15.

The Kentucky Horse Park Mounted Police Barn is located in the center of the park, where officers provide daily barn tours and perform their patrol duties by horseback. They are first responders in emergencies and play a unique role in the park’s interactions with its visitors. The mounted police officers/horses regularly respond to calls, take reports, write tickets, provide traffic control, and can even arrest offenders if necessary. Special details include, but are not limited to: local parades, color guard presentations, riderless horse for fallen officers across the state, Kentucky State Fair, Kentucky Derby, and demonstrations for large events such as Breyerfest, Hats Off Day, and the Kentucky Three Day Event.

Patrolling from horseback, KHP Mounted Police establishes a dialogue with tourists and the horse community alike. This dialogue allows them to be goodwill ambassadors of the Kentucky Horse Park.

Requirements

Draft cross gelding
Ages 5-15
Sound being ridden at walk, trot, and canter.
Kind and friendly disposition.
Docile and curious in character
Big boned, durable but somewhat athletic in build.
Owner willing to transport (or pay to transport)
Up to date on all vaccinations, dental and deworming before arriving (Kentucky State Veterinarian Requirements)
Willing to loan minimum of 3 years after initial 60 day trail period
