LEXINGTON, Ky. (October 21, 2025) — On a beautiful Saturday morning in October, guests gathered at the Kentucky Horse Park for the unveiling and dedication of The Bond: Two Hearts–One Spirit, a monument honoring the extraordinary connection between Thoroughbred champion racehorse Cody’s Wish and his namesake, Cody Dorman.
Created by renowned equine sculptor Jocelyn Russell, the life-sized bronze captures Cody’s Wish lowering his head into Cody Dorman’s lap—a gesture that became the hallmark of their friendship. The work celebrates a relationship that transcended sport, disability, and circumstance, and one that continues to inspire all who hear their story.
The monument is thoughtfully designed to reflect the inclusivity that defined Cody’s life. Visitors in wheelchairs can roll up to the sculpture, place their hands on the horse’s nose, and meet the gaze of Cody’s Wish—just as Cody did. Nearby, a wall displays the iconic photograph of Cody and Cody’s Wish, creating a powerful backdrop for photos and reflection. Those standing are also encouraged to approach the sculpture, touch the horse’s nose, and share in the moment.
The bond between Cody’s Wish and Cody Dorman began in 2018, when the Dorman family visited Godolphin’s Gainsborough Farm through the Make-A-Wish Foundation. The young foal—later named Cody’s Wish—approached Cody, who was born with Wolf-Hirschhorn syndrome and used a wheelchair for mobility. From that first encounter, a lifelong connection was formed.
Cody’s Wish went on to become a Breeders’ Cup and multiple Grade 1-winning champion, while Cody Dorman’s courage, optimism, and infectious joy captured hearts across the globe. Together, they reminded the world of the profound ways horses can touch human lives.
During the ceremony, Cody’s close friend Carson Jost and his family were among the first to take a photo with the monument—a heartfelt reminder that Cody’s spirit continues to inspire new friendships and moments of joy. Visitors can now view The Bond: Two Hearts–One Spirit near the Hall of Champions Barn at the Kentucky Horse Park. The monument will remain as a permanent tribute—ensuring that the incredible story of Cody Dorman and Cody’s Wish will live on in the hearts of visitors for generations to come.
