Join us for an exciting EquineEd event on August 3rd featuring Wren Blae Zimmerman! Join Wren as she shares her journey as a visually impaired/legally blind show jumper. The conversation will delve into the emerging sport of Para-Equestrian Show Jumping, focusing on its development and the ongoing efforts to gain official recognition for the discipline. Additionally, we will explore the broader themes of accessibility and inclusivity within equestrian sport.
Wren Blae Zimmerman, a legally blind equestrian show jumper based in Lexington, KY, was diagnosed at 17 with Stargardt’s Macular Dystrophy, a rare incurable eye disease that has led to significant vision loss. Since 2015, she has been at the forefront of the Para Show Jumping movement in North America, working to gain official recognition for the sport and promote accessibility and inclusivity within the equestrian community. Wren’s efforts have earned her roles as an External Thought Leader on USEF’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Action Plan and as a member of USEFโs Adaptive Sport Committee.
The EquineEd event will take place in the Kentucky Horse Park Visitor Center on Saturday, August 3rd, at 12:30pm. As always, the lectures are FREE and open to the public.
