  • EquineEd: Featuring Kurt Becker

    Saturday, June 06 – Saturday, June 06, 2026
    12:30PM – 01:30PM
    Visitor’s Center

June’s EquineEd lecture takes you trackside… and it’s free to attend! 🐎 Join Keeneland’s race announcer Kurt Becker as he shares an inside look at the art of calling Thoroughbred races, with a special focus on the unique experience of announcing at Keeneland’s Race Course. Kurt will explore how the role of track announcer at Keeneland has transformed – from a time when the course operated without one for its first 60 years, to the dynamic position it is today, following the introduction of a public address system in the 1990s. Bring your questions!

    About Our Speaker:
Kurt Becker, 57, is a native of Illinois who grew up in the Standardbred industry and followed his father, Carl, into the announcing profession. Kurt began his career in 1985 at the Illinois fairs and made the move to pari-mutuel Thoroughbred announcing when he was hired to work the Chicago circuit in 1993. Kurt came to Keeneland Race Course in 1997 as the first track announcer in Keeneland’s history, and he has been a member of the announcing corps for Keeneland Sales since September of 2000. Since 1994, Kurt has also served as a play-by-play announcer for Motor Racing Network’s radio coverage of NASCAR.

EquineEd is a free monthly lecture series at the Kentucky Horse Park, open to all.
