THE KENTUCKY HORSE PARK MUSTANG TROOP
The Kentucky Horse Park is pleased to announce that the Mustang Troop, which began in 1994, will return in 2018. Developed by the Equine Education Department, this program will continue to follow the original mission of helping potential at-risk youth through equine therapy, support, and education. The Mustang Troop program provides a horse camp style experience for children that can benefit emotionally and socially with a program that they normally would not have access to.
Much like past partnerships with the Mustang Troop, Annie’s Answer will provide names of the children for the Mustang Troop program that the Kentucky Horse Park will manage. Annie’s Answer has a similar mission in providing children with important therapy, disguised as a fun activity, so they never have to battle the childhood tendency to fight participation of traditional emotional therapy.
The summer program will provide the fun and excitement of a traditional horse camp, as well as the therapy, support and structure that comes with equine assisted therapy for 50 children. Through this high impact equine-assisted therapy camp, these children will jumpstart their healing of the trauma they have experienced, and also build lifelong coping skills, develop self-confidence, boundary setting skills, teamwork, and independence. While working with horses, the children will learn the responsibility of caring for a horse, build self-esteem by learning to ride, as well as cultivate bonds with both horses and peers. The Mustang Troop has incredible purpose for the children, and helps serve as lifelong building blocks for their success.
Annie’s Answer is heavily volunteer-based and relies on donations to support its program. Information is available at www.anniesanswer.org.
