Event Coordinator Supervisor

The Kentucky Horse Park is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Event Coordinator Supervisor. The chosen candidate's primary responsibility will be as manager of the Park’s Special Event Section. This Supervisor will be responsible for the special events that are scheduled at the Kentucky Horse Park as well as the event coordinators who are assigned to the event section.

The ideal candidate will have thorough knowledge of event management, both horse shows, and non-equestrian events. Professional leadership and the ability to communicate and work with others as a team is key.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Effectively communicate with current and potential clients regarding event needs
  • Supervise event staff by creating schedules, evaluating, and identifying training opportunities, and mentoring
  • Ensuring client needs are met by coordinating needs with event and other park staff
  • Physically working events; typically, nights and weekends
  • Create accurate billing information for approval
  • Responsible for all purchases within the events section following state procurement guidelines
  • Provide detailed plans and solutions related to facilities, personnel, and policies within the section
  • Other duties as assigned

Preferred Skills and Abilities:

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
  • QuickBooks experience is a plus
  • Must be able to multi-task and solve complex issues quickly and effectively
  • Must be able to work effectively with other departments
  • Experience in the horse industry

Event Coordinator I

The Kentucky Horse Park is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Event Coordinator I. The chosen candidate primary responsibility will be to assist with equine and non-equine events at the Kentucky Horse Park. The Event Coordinator I is an entry-level position assisting clients before, during and after events to ensure a successful event.

The ideal candidate will have knowledge of event management, customer service and conflict resolution skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Effectively communicate with current and potential clients regarding event needs
  • Ensuring client needs are met by coordinating needs with event, food restrictions – caterer, food trucks and other park staff
  • Physically working events; typically nights and weekends
  • Create accurate billing information for approval
  • Other duties as assigned

Preferred Skills and Abilities:

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Quickbooks experience is a plus
  • Must be able to multi-task and solve complex issues quickly and effectively
  • Must be able to work effectively with other departments

 Mechanical Maintenance & Operations Techn III

The Kentucky Horse Park is currently seeking applicants for a Mechanical Maintenance & Operations Technician III. This position will assign, supervise and performs the work of employees or acts as lead worker in the maintenance and operation of air conditioning, heating, refrigeration, ventilation, electrical systems and associated equipment; and performs other duties as required.

The ideal candidate for this position will have a strong work ethic, work well with a team and be highly motivated to get the job done.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate the work of staff and assists Maintenance Branch Manager
  • Install, repair, and maintain the air conditioning, heating, ventilation and electrical and plumbing systems
  • Give guidance and training to staff on equipment repairs and equipment preventative maintenance
  • Help develop repair and project costs, assists in developing future projected budgetary needs of the Mechanical Maintenance department
  • Inspect and check the work of others
  • Basic record keeping
  • Other duties as assigned

Preferred Skills and Abilities:

  • Four years of experience in the maintenance or repair of air conditioning, heating, refrigeration, ventilation, or electrical systems
  • Formal training in one of the above or related fields will substitute for the experience on a year-for-year basis
  • Experience in one of the above or related fields will substitute for the education on a year-for-year basis
  • May be required to take care of emergency repairs twenty-four hours a day

Parks Camping Manager

The Kentucky Horse Park is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Parks Camping Manager Located within minutes of downtown Lexington, KY, the Kentucky Horse Park is a 1,224-acre working horse farm, equine theme park, and internationally renowned equine competition facility. Founded in 1978, the Park is owned and operated by the Commonwealth of Kentucky and attracts more than 800,000 visitors from around the world annually. The Park also boasts a 260-site campground and is home to the International Museum of the Horse, a Smithsonian affiliate.

The ideal candidate should be a hard worker, have customer service skills and work well as a team or on their own.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversees campground operations and the work performed of full time and interim employees at the campground; including cash handling, reservation systems and point of sales training.
  • Responsible for stock levels, which include re-ordering operating supplies and grocery items for resale in the trading post.
  • Responsible for the daily registration and check in process of camp sites; including daily site checks for incoming and onsite reservations, nightly reserved signs, and monitoring primitive and primitive electric areas.
  • Provide professional support for group reservations, including sites closures, phone reservations and final invoices for sites and facility rentals.
  • Responsible for prompt replies to phone messages, website contact inquiries, pavilion rentals and facility rental contracts.
  • Responsible for maintaining media board content and website material is updated and complete.
  • Answer phone calls and inquiries.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Preferred Skills and Abilities:

  • Two years of experience in the operation of recreational/accommodation facilities or retail business management
  • Work is typically performed outdoors
  • Additional training in the above fields will substitute for the experience on a year for year basis
  • Additional related experience will substitute for the education on a year for year basis
