Parks Museum Curatorial Assistant (FFTL)
The International Museum of the Horse is a Smithsonian Affiliate Museum, which focuses on the relationship between humans and horses throughout world history. We are looking for dynamic individuals with experience in collections management, object handling, photography, and database entry.
This is a federal funded time-limited (FFTL) position. This means it is a position that is paid entirely as the result of a grant. The duration of employment shall not exceed the life of the grant that funds the position. An employee appointed to a FFTL position is required to meet the minimum requirements for the classification. Further, an employee appointed to a FFTL position is designated as an unclassified (non-merit) employee. A FFTL employee is eligible to receive benefits at the same level as a classified (merit) employee in a permanent position.
Primary Responsibilities
- Assists in the documentation, organization, and management of the artifact collections and library materials
- Performs hands-on maintenance of preserving, handling, photographing, and cataloguing museum objects, including art, horse tack, models, textiles, trophies, and other objects
- Assist in the cleaning of Museum objects
- Assist with updating the collections database Past Perfect and researching equine history, industry, sports, arts, and objects
- Assist with building object mounts and housing units
- Performs related duties as required
