Oliver: From Model Police Horse to Breyer Model

This year, BreyerFest is celebrating it’s 30thAnniversary and they have chosen a very special steed indeed as their “Celebration 2019 Horse” – the Kentucky Horse Park’s very own, Oliver.

You may have seen Oliver welcoming guests to the park each day or while patrolling one of our many world-class equine events.  He has been a member of the KHP Mounted Police force for the past six years.  An 11-year old Shire Cross, Oliver stands heads above any crowd with his black and white pinto pattern and partner Captain Lisa Rakes mounted upon his back.

Captain Rakes says of Oliver, “He loves people, loves being the center of attention and is a great ambassador of the Kentucky Horse Park.” Breyer adds, “We couldn’t think of a better ambassador for BreyerFest 2019 Salute to Horse Heroesand we can’t wait for our guests to meet Oliver and Captain Rakes!”

Oliver’s new limited edition Breyer model has been sculpted by Karen Y. Gerhardt and is on the “Cleveland Bay” mold #703.  The Oliver model is exclusively available with the purchase of a three-day BreyerFest 2019 ticket, on sale now.

“Oliver and I are truly honored for him to be the 2019 Celebration Horse at Breyerfest this year,” says Captain Rakes.  “Oliver deserves this recognition as he is one of the most kind-hearted and well mannered police horses I have known. He is very eager to please and doesn’t like to do anything wrong. Oliver says, ‘horses can’t talk but they can speak if you listen’.”

BreyerFest will be held at the Kentucky Horse Park July 12-14, 2019.  For more information about the event, or to purchase tickets visit
