In the event of a tie of two or more horses completing the first round with 0 faults, an altered course is set, and a timed jump off is held to determine the winner.

KDA Western Dressage

Western dressage combines the principles of dressage with the western stock horse tradition. A Western dressage partnership should exhibit impulsion originating from deeply engaged hindquarters transmitted without resistance through a supple topline to a light, soft contact with the rider’s hand(s). The horse should move freely forward, laterally, and to the rear via a willingness to work off the hindquarters, which enables the Western horse to be a useful working partner. A Western dressage partnership should culminate in a happy, harmonious horse and rider relationship. To learn more about western dressage go to: Western Dressage | US Equestrian (usef.org)

Paul Frazer Memorial Combined Test & Dressage

The Paul Frazer Memorial Combined Test and Dressage Competition is dedicated to a former CKRH Board Member who for years worked to remove physical barriers to handicapped young people in our schools. Paul designed the first handicapped bus in the Fayette County Public Schools, and his design later served as a model for all handicapped buses in Kentucky. As Director of Maintenance for Fayette County schools, Paul oversaw the construction of handicapped ramps, installation of elevators and other structural remodeling to ensure access for every student.
Paul's work with the handicapped and his interest in horses came together in the 1980s when he and his wife, Betty, accompanied a friend to her riding lesson. Paul was so impressed with CKRH that he volunteered to help do whatever was needed. “Hey Chief, what do we need to do today,” were words often heard by someone calling for help. Even after major surgery, Paul continued to help with CKRH. Although he was physically limited, his spirit was strong in cheering everyone on.
We miss seeing Paul, but evidence of his work is around us always. This annual show is dedicated to his memory. It's our way of saying, “Thank you,” and maybe it is his way of ensuring that CKRH continues to provide recreational, therapeutic and socialization opportunities to students of all ages.

USEF Pony Finals

In 1959, the British National Pony Society and the British Show Pony Society challenged American pony riders to an international Pony Hunter Competition. First held at the prestigious National Horse Show in New York City, the best U.S. ponies and riders met head-to-head with the best British ponies and riders in the small and large divisions. The first competition emphasized conformation and under saddle performance. Jumping ability was tested over two fences and counted 20% toward the final score; the American riders in this inaugural competition were narrowly defeated 10 to 9. Two years later, the British National Pony Society hosted the competition. The American riders prepared by spending a rigorous two weeks at the famed Olympic Training Center in Gladstone, N.J. The training proved beneficial, as the U.S. returned with the trophy by earning a score of 13 over Britain’s 9.
In 1967, the American Horse Shows Association created the Pony Finals as a national event, open to all members who met the qualifying criteria. Since 1984, the finals have included the popular Pony Medal Championship, an equitation competition; and in 1999, the Green Hunter Pony Championship was added. Today, the USEF Pony Finals presented by Honor Hill Farms is the most prestigious and celebrated event of its kind in the United States. The Regular Hunter Pony and Green Hunter Pony Finals are a three phase competition judging the pony’s conformation, way of moving and jumping ability. The Marshall & Sterling/USEF Pony Medal Final tests young riders, judging their ability to compete over a technical and demanding course of fences. The USEF Pony Jumper Championship was designed as a stepping stone for junior riders who desire to move into the Grand Prix ring one day.

KHJA Fall Show

Prize Lists, Entry Forms and Schedules will be available here!
The Kentucky Hunter Jumper Association was founded as a non-profit 501(c) 3 in 1965 by a few dedicated horsemen and women, including Ned and Nina Bonnie, Julian Heron, Charles Lovell, Mary Rena Murphy and Ms. T.O. Campbell. Mr. Robert Murphy served as the first President of the organization. In the early 1980's while Mr. Tom Oldaker was President of KHJA, he presented the idea of establishing an "A" rated Horse Show to raise some funds for the organization. Nobody serving on the Board at that time wanted Mr. Oldaker to do this; they said he was crazy and that the idea would be too much work and would never make any money.
Needless to say, Tom did not have a lot of backing for this bold venture! However, Mr. Oldaker pursued the idea and the very first KHJA Horse Show was held in 1981 at the Kentucky Horse Park in what is presently known as the Dressage Ring. The Horse Show was entirely run by Mr. Oldaker who did everything from managing the office staff to dragging the arena long after the sun had set! Tom's wife was responsible for ordering ribbons and trophies for each class. She recalls, "All the trophies were silver back then and they were engraved with the class name and year. We gave silver plates, bowls and horse heads, you name it. We gave nice trophies because we wanted it to be a really special horse show".
Mrs. Oldaker also did all the "running" at the horse show taking the results from the judge to the announcer and then to the office. That first year, the show was very successful and cleared around $10,000. Today, the KHJA Horse Show is a prominent fixture on the "A" circuit drawing over 1,000 entries to the Horse Park each August with horses and riders competing in five and sometimes six rings simultaneously over the period of four days! In the Horse Show's 25th year, a profit of $70,000 was made, documenting the continued success of a project that today, is still the main fundraiser for the organization.
