The International Museum of the Horse presents a new concept in special exhibitions with its opening of Equine Treasures of the Bluegrass. Utilizing the museum’s permanent exhibits and collections as its framework, as well as art and artifacts from some of the Commonwealth’s leading museums, libraries and private collectors, the exhibit is the most comprehensive exhibition ever produced telling the fascinating story of the mystical bond between Kentuckians and their horses.

Medals, Memories & Milestones: Great Moments in American Show Jumping

Event Description: 

The first phase of the new Wheeler Museum exhibit is now open at the USHJA Headquarters. The exhibit is open to the public and features items and stories from the Show Jumping Hall of Fame, as well as new materials loaned by riders, owners, grooms, and fans, telling the stories of legendary horses and people who have helped shape show jumping as an international and national sport. The exhibit follows the history of the United States Equestrian Team from its founding in 1950 through the 2016 Rio Olympic Games. On the national scene, the exhibit highlights the growth and importance for riders, owners and spectators of grand prix series, such as those organized by the American Grandprix Association and the United States Grand Prix League. The exhibit will also feature the history of course design and fun facts about special classes such as the Puissance and bygone pairs and "doubles and trebles" classes.

Come experience the story of the life and career of the original Big Red and those who worked with him. Discover what created Man o’ War’s lasting legacy and how he became the mostest horse.

A Trip to Egypt: Preston Dyer's Search for New Arabian Blood

The International Museum of the Horse is exhibiting the first of three exhibitions chronicling the Middle Eastern adventures of Preston Dyer as he sought to acquire new Arabian blood for his employer, William Randolph Hearst, in 1947. Photos in the exhibition are by John Williamson, an Arabian horse breeder and cereal magnate/grandson of W.K. Kellogg.

Smithsonian Magazine’s Museum Day at IMH

Ted Bassett: A Kentucky Legend

Opening to the public on Thursday, May 29, the exhibit shares items from Bassett’s personal collection, representing his long and storied career in the Thoroughbred industry. In particular, he is honored for the leadership role he played in saving the Calumet Farm trophies that are now safely ensconced at the museum for future generations to enjoy.
