Spring Fling Carriage Drive

Event Description: 

The Spring Fling driving event is an opportunity for drivers to bring their horses to the Kentucky Horse Park to practice driving for the upcoming show or recreational season as well as get to opportunity to drive their horses on the beautiful park grounds. Driving is the sport of horses pulling carriages, within driving there are many disciplines ranging from combined driving to wagon pulling. This event is open to all disciplines and drivers; novice to advanced.

Joanna Wilburn will offer private lessons (and FREE group clinics for everyone) throughout the long weekend giving everyone the opportunity to learn from this accomplished clinician without charge. The private lessons will be paid directly to the clinician at the time of the clinic.

Off-Site Wagering for Breeders' Cup at Kentucky Horse Park and CP National Horse Show

Event Description: 

Walk-up and drive-thru wagering will be available at the Alltech Arena during the CP National Horse Show Friday-Saturday, Oct. 30-31. Simulcasting on large screen televisions in the Gracie Street Garden will be broadcast inside the Alltech Arena both days with the Breeders’ Cup races on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 30-31. Simulcasting will allow patrons to enjoy all the action at Keeneland while accessing the show jumping action at America’s most prestigious and longest running indoor horse show. Off-site wagering will open one hour before racing begins and close 30 minutes after the last race at Keeneland on both days.

Admission to the CP National Horse Show is free on Friday, Oct. 30, until 6 p.m., then admission is $5 on Friday night and $10 for all day on Saturday, Oct. 31. Children 12 and under are free. Park admission is not required and parking will be free of charge all three days for this Breeders’ Cup option at the park. Gracie Street Garden will be open the same hours as the show serving breakfast items, wraps, sandwiches and other pub fare.

Cigar Statue Unveiling and Dedication

Event Description: 

The park will unveil a statue dedicated to the great Thoroughbred champion racehorse, Cigar, who died in October 2014 after living at the park’s Hall of Champions for 15 years. Sculpted by Kentucky artist Douwe (Dow) Blumberg, the bronze will feature Cigar, with jockey Jerry Bailey, from his 1995 Breeders’ Cup Classic win. One of the world’s richest racehorses, Cigar achieved many notable wins and accolades over his racing career including being voted Racehorse of the Decade of the 1990s, and was the 18th best racehorse of the 20th century. The event will take place at the  KHP Hall of Champions and is included with park general admission.

Kentucky Invitational High School Rodeo

Event Description: 

The Kentucky High School Rodeo Association and the Kentucky Junior High School Rodeo Association join together for the Kentucky Invitational High School Rodeo. The events taking place during this rodeo are Bareback Bronc Riding, Saddle Bronc Riding, Steer Wrestling, Tie-Down Calf Roping, Bull Riding, Breakaway Calf Roping, Goat Tying, Barrel Racing, Pole Bending, and Ribbon Roping. Participants from Indiana and West Virginia will also be competing against the Kentucky competitors. This rodeo serves as the last qualifying rodeo for the high school participants before the state finals, and it is the state finals for junior high school participants. MayDaze Horse Trials

Dates:

Event Description: 

The MayDaze Horse Trials bring together more than 500 horses and their riders from approximately 20 states to compete in a 3-day event competition. Introductory to intermediate levels will be on display. This spring event is very beneficial in the training process for green to advanced horses and riders. KDA Annual Spring Show

The Spring Warm Up show and the Annual Dressage Show combine for the first events of the season for the Kentucky Dressage Association (KDA).
