Kentucky Horse Park to Host Man o’ War Run for Big Red Aug. 5

Man o' War Run for Big Red

The Kentucky Horse Park will host the Man o’ War Run for Big Red 5K/10K on its scenic grounds in Lexington, Ky. Aug. 5 at 8 a.m.

Sponsored by UK Healthcare, the competitive 5K/10K is part of the Kentucky Horse Park’s season-long Man o’ War Celebration, presented by Windstream, which includes a series of events highlighting the life of the great racehorse in honor of his 100thbirthday.

The Run for Big Red offers two different picturesque routes that wind throughout the park. It costs $25 for the 5K, $35 for the 10K, and $15 for children participants ages 7-12. Register online by visiting https://runsignup.com/Race/KY/Lexington/ManOWar5K10KRunWalk.

Included in the race fee is chip timing and a commemorative Man o’ War-themed t-shirt, as well as a one-day pass to the Kentucky Horse Park, which includes the International Museum of the Horse’s Man o’ War exhibit, sponsored by Lynn Imaging/Monster Color. Awards will be offered to the top three male and female finishers, plus the top three finishers in various age groups of the 5K and 10K.

Food and beverage trucks will be at the finish line of the Run for Big Red, including Crank & Boom’s special “Big Red” strawberry balsamic sorbet. A commemorative beer crafted by Alltech to enhance the Man o’ War Celebration will also be available. Called “The Mostest Wheat Ale” after Man o’ War’s nickname, the celebratory beer will be offered and served in Kentucky Horse Park Man o’ War Celebration souvenir cups. It will be available on tap at several other locations throughout Lexington this summer.

The Kentucky Horse Park’s goal in its season-long Man o’ War Celebration is to honor the life of the legendary horse, as well as encourage people to visit the premier tourist destination, which is currently hosting a special exhibit entitled “Man o’ War: The Mostest Horse That Ever Was.”
