The Paso Fino Horse Association (PFHA) presents the 41st Annual Grand National Championship Show and Expo, a PFHA/United States Equestrian Federation (USEF) “A” Rated Show, September 29 – October 5, 2013.
The Grand National Championship Showcases the Paso Fino horse, bred for their stamina, smooth gait, and beauty. The breed’s journey to the Americas began more than 500 years ago with the importation of Andalusians, Spanish Barbs from North Africa, and smooth-gaited Spanish Jennets to the “New World” by Spanish Conquistadors. The Paso Finos became known as the horses with the fine walk, “Los Caballos de Paso Fino,” flourishing initially in Puerto Rico and Colombia, and later, in many other Latin American countries. Today, the American Paso Fino - true to our “melting pot” tradition - is often a blend of the best of Puerto Rican and Colombian bloodlines.
For the Grand National Championship, the eventing will begin on Monday, September 30, with Barrel Racing and Pole Bending in the Covered Arena. The competition continues on Tuesday, October 1, with Stall Decorating Awards from 9:00 am – 5:00 pm. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, October 1-3, there will be Cowboy Mounted Shooting in the Covered Arena. There will also be a Youth Obstacle Trail Challenge at 3:00 pm on Thursday, October 3, in the Recreational Rider Arena.
A full weekend of events will continue on Friday, October 4, with the Gait Clinic by Robin Ratliff, also in the Recreational Rider Arena, and the Largo Race, held in the Covered Arena. The Amateur Obstacle Trail Challenge will be Friday at 3:00 pm in the Recreational Rider Arena. Saturday, October 5, will be a big day with Barrel Racing, Pole Bending, and Cowboy Mounted Shooting Final Heats in the Covered Arena. In the Recreational Rider Arena there will be an Open Obstacle Trail Challenge at 3:00 pm and a Freestyle Competition at 5:30pm. The final heat of the Largo Race and the High Point of the Show Awards will be held in the Covered Arena on Saturday evening.
Guests will have the opportunity to Ride a Paso Fino during the weekend of the event. Check back for more specific dates and times – TBA.
All of this and more will make for an excellent 41st Grand National Championship, so come enjoy the show and expo, ride a Paso Fino and cheer for your favorite fine stepping horse.
