UK Healthcare’s Bluegrass International Cup at Polo in the Park

The location of the 5th annual Bluegrass International Cup at Polo in the Park presented by UK Healthcare has changed. It will now be held at the Kentucky Horse Park’s renowned John Henry field. The eventwill still be held on Saturday, July 16, 2011. The Bluegrass International Cup at Polo in the Park benefits the crucial efforts of Bluegrass Conservancy and the Fayette Alliance. Main tent patrons enjoy a delicious dinner by Dupree Catering and drinks as they watch an exciting polo match between Team U.S.A. and Team South Africa.  While tailgaters get a front row view of the polo match from the limited availability tailgating spots. Last year, over 800 guests enjoyed a fantastic evening of professional polo between South Africa and the United States, delicious food, and dancing. Founded in 1995, Bluegrass Conservancy is a private, nonprofit land trust working to protect the Inner Bluegrass Region of Kentucky through land conservation for future generations. We encourage the preservation of these lands through the use of conservation easements for agricultural viability, natural habitat, rural heritage, and scenic open space. Our service area includes but is not limited to Anderson, Bourbon, Boyle, Clark, Fayette, Franklin, Jessamine, Madison, Mercer, Scott, and Woodford counties. Conservation easements are voluntary legal agreements between a landowner and a qualified land trust such as Bluegrass Conservancy. These flexible agreements are tailored to the landowner’s objectives and property in order to preserve the land for agriculture and/or other open space activities in perpetuity, thereby protecting the land’s conservation values. A landowner donating a conservation easement to Bluegrass Conservancy may be eligible for significant income tax and estate tax savings. Our land trust currently holds 74 conservation easements permanently protecting 11,279 acres.

Meet the Kentucky Equine Humane Center's adoptable horse of the week: Derby! 

Derby is a 4-year-old Thoroughbred mare, 15.3 hands, who is busy absorbing all kinds of new experiences at KyEHC.  She is cautious yet curious when introduced to new objects and obstacles but is learning to explore her new world more confidently.

Derby gets along in a herd with both mares and geldings. She is sound for any discipline, a quick learner, and ready for a new home and career.

Enrollment applications are now available for the Fall 2011 Semester of the Kentucky Horse Park Professional Horseman’s Course.  The course will be held from August 15 to December 16, 2011.  The deadline is July 15.

The Kentucky Horse Park’s Education Department offers a unique and hands-on educational opportunity unequalled by other equine schools.  Students will have the opportunity to study and work with more than 30 breeds of horses residing at the Kentucky Horse Park while acquiring the knowledge and skills to launch a productive career in the equine industry.  This program challenges students with daily hands-on practical interaction with horses in a variety of different environments, health issues and training levels, as well as broadens their overall level of equine understanding.

Classes and practicum work in stable management, anatomy and physiology, reproduction, marketing and career development all compliment the hands on side of the program to ensure a well-rounded education.  Students will also receive an introduction to - and be able to interact with - breeding practices, and disciplines of carriage driving, racing, and World Equestrian Games disciplines.  Former student Heidi Bruner from Indiana commented, “My expectations for this course exceeded everything I could ever imagine” and former student Amelia Clyatt from California stated, “The opportunities that have arisen and the knowledge that I’ve gained has literally changed my life.”

Through a comprehensive curriculum and small class size, which ensures adequate hands-on and individualized learning experiences, students will be prepared to seek entry level work or advance their current position in the industry upon graduation. Eighty-percent of the Spring Semester graduates achieved full time employment in the equine industry within two weeks of completing the course.

Meet the Ky Equine Humane Center’s adoptable horse of the week: Sophie.

She is a very cute, 2-year-old Mustang cross filly, 14.2-hands (and still growing) who LOVES attention. She was actually born at the Kentucky Equine Humane Center in August of 2008.

Sophie is currently working on her ground manners and is progressing nicely. Sh...e has been started under saddle and does well with obstacles. Sophie needs a home where she can get consistent handling to continue her progress.

The Carriage Association of America is holding its first pleasure driving competition, the Carriage Classic,  this weekend, July 1-3 at the Kentucky Horse Park.  This USEF-sanctioned show will be held in the Alltech Arena. 

Horses and antique carriages from across the country are competing and being driven throughout the park for visitors to enjoy watching.  Included with park admission!

Carriage Association of America To Host a “Driving Show and More”

The Carriage Association of America (CAA) is pleased to announce the first CAA Carriage Classic, which will be held at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, Kentucky, July 1–3. The event, which will take place mostly in the Horse Park’s Alltech Arena, will be part pleasure-driving show and part mini-Conference.

Participants and spectators alike will all find something to see, do, and enjoy at this year’s inaugural CAA Carriage Classic.

The pleasure-driving-show portion of the event will feature the standard pleasure-driving classes and a several “just for fun” classes, in a variety of divisions. The prize list for the show is available now, and entries close on May 15. Alltech National Horse Show Press Conference

The Black Stallion Show Media Opportunity

WHAT:  Four thousand fourth graders from the Lexington and surrounding counties are currently reading Walter Farley’s book, “The Black Stallion,” through a partnership between the Kentucky Horse Park, The Kentucky Horse Park Foundation and the Black Stallion Literacy Program.   Next, during a trip to the Kentucky Horse Park, the fourth graders will experience the book in a new way.  Notable scenes from the book will come to life as professional performers and horses from Arabian Nights (Orlando, Florida) will perform scenes from the childhood favorite and dazzle the audience with daredevil stunts in the Black Stallion Literacy Show.
 
WHEN:  Wednesdy. May 11, Noon 

WHERE: Alltech Arena at the Kentucky Horse Park
 
WHY:   The purpose is to inspire children to discover the joys of reading and the excitement of learning through the wonders of live horses and Walter Farley’s Black Stallion books.

The 128th National Horse Show will be held November 2- 6, 2011, at the new Alltech Arena at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, KY. In additional to a full set of  'AA'-rated hunter divisions, there will be Junior and Amateur Jumper Division with a Show Jumping Hall of Fame Classic, as well as Open Jumper divisions with a Grand Prix event. As always, the signature event of the National Horse Show will be the ASPCA Alfred B. Maclay Finals. This prestigious horse show will be managed by Leo Conroy and Hugh Kincannon of Kentucky Horse Shows, LLC.
 
One of the highlight events during the 128th National Horse Show will be the ASPCA Alfred B. Maclay Finals. Junior riders compete throughout the year to qualify for the finals, which will include a warm-up, and will be limited to 200 entries determined by regional qualifying events. Kip Rosenthal and Cynthia Hankins will judge this year's top junior riders as they compete for the coveted title as the winner of the Maclay.   
The ASPCA Alfred B. Maclay Finals have been held since 1933, and its winners are some of the biggest names in equestrian sport. Previous winners include Olympians: William Steinkraus (1941), Frank Chapot (1948), George Morris (1952), J. Michael Plumb (1957), Conrad Homfeld (1967), Leslie Burr Howard (1972), and Peter Wylde (1982).
 
Founded in 1883 at the original Madison Square Garden, the National Horse Show is America's oldest indoor horse show, firmly established as a major fixture on the national and international sports and social event calendars. The National Horse Show Association's primary activity is the annual production of the National Horse Show and all ancillary events. Over the years, the National Horse Show has provided financial aide to many worthwhile charities.
