Lexington, KY - September 30, 2011 - Nine Olympic veterans, including four gold medalists highlight the talented roster of riders scheduled to compete at this year's Alltech National Horse Show at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, Kentucky on November 2 - 6, 2011.
This year's debut event in Kentucky, designated a CSI-W 4*, will feature a big money Open Jumper division with over $370,000 in prize money, including the main event, the $250,000 Alltech National Horse Show Grand Prix, an FEI World Cup qualifier, on Saturday night. All in all, over $600,000 in prize money is up for grabs in November. "That brings this show on par or better than any show in North America, or any indoor show anywhere in the world," noted show manager Hugh Kincannon.
American Olympians McLain Ward, Laura Kraut, Lauren Hough, Joe Fargis, Margie Engle and Todd Minikus will lead a stellar field of riders, representing eight different nations at this year's show.
Currently ranked number two in the Rolex World Rankings, two-time Olympic Gold medalist McLain Ward will be joined by his Athens and Hong Kong teammate Laura Kraut. Joining this dynamic duo is veteran rider Joe Fargis who secured Olympic Gold in Los Angeles in 1984. Margie Engle and Lauren Hough, members of the United States Olympic team at Sydney, Australia are also scheduled to compete in Lexington.
Engle and Ward are currently ranked one-two on the list of all time grand prix wins in North America.
Brazil's Rodrigo Pessoa, the Individual Gold medalist at the Olympic Games in Athens, Greece, leads the international list that also includes Nick Skelton, a six-time Olympic veteran for his home country of Great Britain. Pessoa is a three-time World Cup Champion, while Skelton, also a former World Cup Champion, has won Gold at the European Championships and just last month narrowly missed a second Gold, but took home the Bronze in this year's event.
Adding to the international flavor of this year's show are Harrie Smolders of the Netherlands, Pablo Barrios of Venezuela, Ireland's Shane Sweetnam, Richard Maloney and Jonathan McCrea and a strong contingent from Great Britain that includes Skelton, and up and coming stars, Scott Brash and Ben Maher. Barrios has represented his country at the Olympic Games, while Sweetnam, Maher and Brash have all just completed a very successful summer on this year's FEI Nations Cup tour.
The national roster of top rider includes top competitors Kent Farrington, Charlie Jayne, Christine McCrea, Richard Spooner and Ashlee Bond, all members of the United States FEI Nations Cup efforts over the past two seasons. Spooner is among the top five in all-time grand prix victories.
The stars of the future will be well represented at this year's Alltech National Horse Show. Led by Katie Dinan, the Individual Gold Medalist at this year's North American Young Riders Championships in Lexington, the roster also includes Young Rider Team Gold Medalists Lucy Davis and Saer Coulter of California and Reed Kessler, one of the country's top junior riders, with multiple wins on the highly competitive European circuit this summer. Joining the group is Brianne Goutal a former ASPCA Maclay national champion, and Kirsten Coe, a World Cup qualifier winner in California just a couple of weeks ago.
All in all, thirty-five of the world's best show jumpers will take center stage when the Alltech National Horse Show, 128th Edition, gets underway on November 2 - 6, 2011, at the beautiful, new Alltech Arena at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington.
This year's show, designated CSI4*-W, will feature a complete schedule of 'AA'-rated hunter divisions, including the Pony Lane Farm High Performance Hunter section. Also on the agenda, a big money Open Jumper division highlighted by the Sasco Creek Farm $50,000 Welcome Speed Class, the $75,000 Double H Farms Thursday's Jump-Off class, the $60,000 Spy Coast Farm Faults Converted Speed class on Friday and of course, the $250,000 Alltech National Horse Show Grand Prix, an FEI World Cup qualifying event. $100,000 will be up for grabs for the Junior and Amateur Jumper divisions, including the $50,000 SJHOF Junior/Amateur Championships, sponsored by Sleepy P Ranch, Chansonette and Deeridge Farm. The final Sunday is highlighted by the signature event of the National Horse Show, the ASPCA Alfred B. Maclay Finals, presented by C.M. Hadfield's Saddlery.

• Daytime: The Shriners Hospitals for Children
Shriners Hospitals for Children has a mission to provide the highest quality care to children with neuromusculoskeletal conditions, burn injuries and other special healthcare needs within a compassionate, family-centered and collaborative care environment. It also provides for the education of physicians and other healthcare professionals, and conducts research to discover new ways of improving the quality of care and quality of life of children and families. Dr. Henry Iwinski, pediatric orthopaedic surgeon at Shiners Hospital, said, “We are thrilled to be selected as one of the charities for the Alltech National Horse Show. Over 10,000 children from Kentucky and the surrounding states are currently receiving expert pediatric orthopedic care at our hospital. Gifts such as this one from Alltech enable us to deliver that care regardless of the families’ ability to pay.”
• Evening: The Alltech Sustainable Haiti Project
Just days following Haiti's devastating earthquake in 2010, Alltech began its work to help rebuild the country through tangible, long-term investment. Within 48 hours of the quake's cessation, Dr. Pearse Lyons was in Haiti identifying opportunities for involvement, and the Alltech Sustainable Haiti Project was launched. Today the project includes complete financial responsibility as well as renovations for a grade school in northern Haiti and the resurrection of a Haitian gem - the country's 100% mountain-grown Arabica coffee. Organically grown and Fair Trade Certified™, Alltech's Café Citadelle coffee is hand-picked, ensuring a consistent and flavorful coffee at the peak of its richness. Most importantly, the coffee provides a sustainable livelihood for the people of Haiti with all proceeds from Café Citadelle going directly to the thousands of families working for the co-op as well as two Haitian primary schools.
“Haiti needs a healthy economy,” said Dr. Pearse Lyons, president and founder of Alltech. “Sustainable economic growth is the only thing that will make a long-term difference in Haiti. Alltech is pleased that our Sustainable Haiti Project can be among the other well deserving charities benefiting from the Alltech National Horse Show.”

• Daytime: The Kentucky Horse Park Mustang Troop
The Kentucky Horse Park Mustang Troop was designed and is dedicated to providing services, activities, and supervision that will help engage youth in a manner as to keep them off the streets and hopefully off the path that leads to gun violence, gang affiliation and substance abuse. Through the collective efforts of staff members, volunteers, parents, and peers, the Mustang Troop has proven a successful avenue for children looking for structure, guidance, and purpose in their lives. It is the goal of the Kentucky Horse Park, and the Mustang Troop in general, to encourage children and young adults to live up to their potential by giving them, through their work with horses, the necessary resources to be successful in school, work and life as a whole.
Kathy Hopkins with the Mustang Troop stated, “The Mustang Troop, and the Kentucky Horse Park as a whole, is overwhelmed and extremely grateful to have been chosen as one of the beneficiaries of the Alltech National Horse Show. This is a wonderful honor that will be greatly appreciated by our staff, troopers, and horses. The Mustang Troop is a program that survives solely on donations and volunteer manpower, and we are thankful for each and every generous contribution that comes our way. Thank you so much for this outstanding recognition.”

More than one million visitors travel to the park annually to explore their own personal relationship with horses. The Louisville Metro Police Foundation is a private, independent and non-profit charitable organization and focuses its spending on four categories: crime fighting, excellence in policing, health and well-being of LMPD officers, and community partnerships.
“Louisville Metro Police Foundation certainly appreciates opportunities to partner with Alltech. This is a great opportunity to make Louisville a safer city and ensure LMPD has the necessary resources. Community partnerships have proven over the decades to be an invaluable asset to combat criminal activity,” said Troy Pitcock of the Louisville Metro Police Foundation.

The Kentucky Equine Humane Center (KyEHC) is a first-of-its-kind facility, established with the specific goal of providing owners with a humane option when they need to give up their horses. No horse in Kentucky in a precarious situation is ever turned away. Those who can be adopted go to loving homes and, like dogs and cats, those with chronic pain, hopeless injuries or illness are compassionately euthanized by a licensed veterinarian. Since KyEHC opened its doors in 2007, it has given refuge to more than 650 horses. www.KyEHC.org.

Friends of the Lexington Mounted Police, Inc., is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, supporting the horses and officers of the Lexington, KY mounted police unit and their outreach training efforts to mounted officers throughout North America with an annual National Mounted Police Colloquium. The Lexington mounted unit also offers The Civilian Equine Sensory Clinics, supporting civilian riders.
“We recognize and appreciate the enormous support of corporations in the sustenance of equine sports. Without this level of involvement, these sports would not be able to maintain the level of excellence we are experiencing in the current economy. The Friends of the Lexington Mounted Police are especially grateful for the invitation to participate in the educational opportunities during the 2011 Alltech National Horse Show,” said Gin Preston with the Friends of the Lexington Mounted Police.
• Evening: United States Equestrian Team Foundation
The United States Equestrian Team Foundation supports the competition, training, coaching, travel and educational needs of America’s elite and developing international high performance horses and athletes in partnership with the United States Equestrian Federation. Its main tasks are to support athletes, promote international excellence and build for the future.
Bonnie Jenkins, executive director of the USET Foundation, said, “We are so appreciative of being selected as one of the charities for the Alltech National Horse Show this year. The NHS has been an important and prestigious competition for our U.S. Equestrian Teams in the years past. Choosing the USET Foundation as the charity for the Grand Prix evening is wonderful and will truly help as we look forward to the 2012 Olympic Games in London.”

Aurora, CO (August 19, 2011) - The breed's premier sport horses will gather for the ninth annual Sport Horse National Arabian & Half-Arabian Championship Horse Show (Sport Horse Nationals) Sept. 28 – Oct. 2, 2011.
Sport Horse Nationals ranks as the only single-breed sport horse event in the nation.
Unique from the Arabian Horse Association's (AHA's) other national shows, Sport Horse Nationals offers only classes from sport horse divisions including hunter/jumper, dressage, carriage pleasure driving, sport horse under saddle and in-hand classes. The youngest of all the AHA nationals shows, Sport Horse Nationals is known for its amateur friendly atmosphere coupled with bar-raising competition.
With 500 horses expected, three arenas will run simultaneously beginning at 8 a.m. each day. New this year is the A/HA/AA 14.2 & Under Working Hunter Exhibition, spotlighting the new division of working hunter horses measuring 14.2 hands or smaller. There are no qualification points and no entry fee required for the exhibition, but exhibitors must enter in the Show Office on an Official Entry Form. Other must-see classes include Saturday evening's Carriage Pleasure Driving – Gamblers Choice and Sport Horse In-Hand Supreme which serves as an all-star-like competition with all the in-hand champions in the same ring so one can be named supreme.
Exhibitors, spectators and visitors to the show will have the chance to visit The International Museum of the Horse's newest wing, the Al-Marah Arabian Horse Galleries, which officially opened in June of 2010, and shop at the Sport Horse Nationals Shopping Expo on the concourse of the Covered Arena. The always popular Barn Parties, on Sept. 29 at 7 p.m. lets exhibitors host spectators and each other to a spread of food, drink, and fun.
Visit www.ArabianHorses.org/SHN during the show for daily updates and for more informaiton.
What makes Arabians Special?
Arabians are the oldest pure breed of horse. The Arabian horse was portrayed on the walls of caves as early as 25,000 to 40,000 years ago. The first written documentation of the breed more than 3,000 years ago verifies that the Arabian horse is basically the same today as it was then. Most of today's popular breeds came from Arabians, including the Thoroughbred--the majority of Thoroughbreds can be traced back to three foundations stallions, two of which were Arabians.
The Arabian's physical attributes are not only eye-appealing, but also very functional as a sport horse. Arabians have a shorter, stronger back that allows it to carry substantial weight in comfort; large nostrils and trachea for greater lung capacity; dense, compact bone; and lighter muscling which dissipates heat and lactic acid more readily.
Lastly, Arabians are known for their intelligence, willingness to be trained and for the fact that they really enjoy human companionship, due to the fact that they actually used to stay in the tents of their owners in the deserts of Arabia. The history of the Arabians is wonderfully told at the brand new Al-Marah Arabian Horse Galleries. A spin around the museum and some time watching classes would make a perfect daily outing!

Free and open to the public, Alltech's popular Equine News and Brews program will be held August 25 at Alltech's Lexington Brewing and Distilling Company in downtown Lexington.
"The Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games were transformational for Lexington and for the Commonwealth of Kentucky," said Dr. Pearse Lyons, president and founder of Alltech, the first-ever title sponsor of the Games and of the National Horse Show. "Opportunity once again literally landed in our backyard with the National Horse Show."
"As with the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games in 2010, we are eager to help people understand and enjoy this year's highly acclaimed equestrian competition, along with experiencing the many exhibits and demonstrations on the show grounds for the entire family."
The 2011 Equine News and Brews program, he added, is designed to "build on the spirit of the Alltech FEI Games by providing a forum for all those who share a love of the horse. The open, casual dialogue encouraged at Equine News and Brews is meant to serve as a catalyst in fostering local involvement and interest in the equine industry."
The Alltech National Horse Show, 128th Edition, will be held November 2- 6 in the indoor, climate-controlled Alltech Arena at the Kentucky Horse Park. This year's show offers more than $600,000 in prize money. It has been designated CSI-W 4*, with the Alltech National Horse Show Grand Prix being named an FEI East Coast League World Cup qualifying event.
The Equine News and Brews program will be held at Alltech's Lexington Brewing and Distilling Company at 401 Cross St. in downtown Lexington. A Kentucky Ale reception will begin at 6:30 p.m., followed by the program at 7:00. There is no charge but attendees must preregister by emailing
