From Olympic show jumpers to elegant gaited riders, an array of equestrians will compete at the 2012 Alltech National Horse Show, Oct. 30 to Nov. 4, held at the Alltech Arena on the grounds of the Kentucky Horse Park.

More than a world-class horse show, the week-long event welcomes the community with Halloween Trick-or-Treat night, a Military Day, a Fitness Friday and a 5K Countryside Canter and 1-Mile Fun Run. Inside the arena, visitors will find shopping venues, interactive exhibits, and Kentucky food and beverages. Highlights of the competition include the Puissance, the Alltech Grand Prix and the ASPCA Alfred Maclay Final.  Admission is included with Kentucky Horse Park admission during daytime events. Admission is $20 for adults on Thursday and Friday evenings, and $30 on Saturday evening.

Wednesday, October 31 – Not Your Ordinary Halloween Trick-or-Treat

Bring your family to trick-or-treat at the Alltech National Horse Show with some of your favorite cartoon characters, including Woody and Jessie from Toy Story, Shrek and Fiona, Cinderella and Spider-Man. No matter the weather, we’ll be trick-or-treating in the dry and warm Alltech Arena. Free for all and open to the public, this unique trick-or-treat starts at 5 p.m. and ends at 7 p.m.

Thursday, November 1 – Military Day

Don’t miss a chance to thank our military heroes during the Alltech National Horse Show. Meet with local heroes and test your strength at the Army Activity Area at the Alltech Arena. Members of the military will receive half price admission to evening events with a military I.D. At 7 p.m. a Presentation of Colors will be performed by the Forest Hill Military Academy.

Friday, November 2 – Fit Friday

Pick up your registration packet for Saturday’s Countryside Canter 5K and 1-Mile Fun Run during events Saturday. While you’re at the Arena, receive a free health screening.

Saturday, November 3 – Family Fun Day and the Countryside Canter 5K

Two-legged athletes will race through the scenic Kentucky Horse Park during the Alltech Countryside Canter 5K and 1-Mile Fun Run/Walk. The races start at 8 a.m., but fun continues throughout the day with a balloon twister, face painting, pictures on a pony (1-3 p.m.) and your favorite cartoon characters. The East Coast U.S. Junior Hunter Championship will begin tomorrow, July 24, and run concurrently with the Kentucky Summer Horse Show on July 25,2012. This national championship will attract the very best Junior Hunters. In addition, the USHJA/Essex Classics Hunterdon Cup Equitation Classic will be held July 25, 2012 in the Rolex Stadium.

Held at the renowned Kentucky Horse Park, the Kentucky Summer Horse Show will include the $5,000 USHJA National Hunter Derby sponsored by Hallway Feeds, one of the six events of the Hallway Feeds series, which will provide a $10,000 Bonus to the leading professional rider and $2,500 each to the leading Amateur and Junior riders. Jumper highlights for the Kentucky Summer Horse Show include the $25,000 Hagyard Lexington Classic on Thursday, July 26, the $40,000 Kentucky Summer Grand Prix on Saturday, July 28, and the Show Jumping Hall of Fame Junior and Amateur-Owner Jumper Classics on Sunday, July 29. The Hagyard Lexington Classic is part of a seven-class series, culminating with a $50,000 Leading Riding Award. The 2012 Hagyard Challenge Series will also feature a high point Thoroughbred Award. Following the final event, a $10,000 prize will be presented to the high point Thoroughbred participating in the Series.

Throughout the summer, the Kentucky Summer Series will feature the SSG Riding Gloves ‘Go Clean for the Green’ promotion, offering $30,000 in bonus money. Riders wearing the SSG ‘Digital’ Riding Gloves with the SSG horse head logo clearly visible during all rounds of competition in designated events are eligible for the bonus.

The series will continue with the Kentucky Summer Classic held July 31-August 5. The $25,000 Hagyard Lexington Classic will be held on Thursday, August 2, and on Saturday, August 4, riders will compete in the Rolex Stadium in the $50,000 Rood and Riddle Grand Prix. The $5,000 Hallway Feeds USHJA National Hunter Derby will also return on Saturday, August 4.

The USEF Pony Finals will be held August 7 - 12. More than 600 qualifying ponies will compete for awards in Green and Regular pony sections, pony jumpers and the Pony Medal Finals.

The third show of the Kentucky Summer Series, the Bluegrass Festival Horse
Show is a WCHR Member event, where riders can earn points towards year-end awards. The $100,000 USHJA International Hunter Derby Finals will return to Rolex Stadium, August 17-18. Spectators can also look forward to the $25,000 Hagyard Lexington Classic on Friday, August 17 and the $40,000 Bluegrass Festival Grand Prix and Junior/Amateur-Owner Jumper Classics on Sunday, August 19.

Wrapping up the summer series will be the KHJA Horse Show held August 22- 26, 2012. The $10,000 Hagyard Welcome Stake will run Friday, August 24, and will be followed on Sunday, August 26, by the $30,000 KHJA Grand Prix and the Junior/Amateur-Owner Jumper Classics. The KHJA Horse Show will also host the final event of the Hallway Feeds USHJA National Hunter Derby and the presentation of the leading rider awards.

Abusive practices such as those highlighted on the Nightline segment are not tolerated in our organization.  We fight daily to ensure that horses are treated kindly and with great respect.  NWHA is the answer to this horrible tradition.

Since 1998, the National Walking Horse Association has been promoting the general welfare of and serving as an advocate for the Walking Horse against abusive and inhumane treatment.  As a USDA certified HIO, NWHA has adopted and enforced the highest level of penalties for HPA violators, adopted "no tolerance" for soring practices, and has a mandatory requirement that all DQP's, Judges, and Board of Directors members have no violations of the HPA.

Lexington, Ky (May 7, 2012) – She is every little girl’s dream -- the beautiful woman in the spotlight surrounded by a spellbinding herd of Arabian horses at liberty. Her name is Sylvia Zerbini, and she transforms liberty work into the ultimate equestrian performing art.

“I’ve been with horses my entire life. It’s in my blood,” says Sylvia, a ninth-generation performer who has captivated audiences throughout Europe, North America, and South America since her debut on stage at the age of 5.

“It’s about the bond,” explains Sylvia, who grew up around her family’s Lipizzaner, Arabian, and Spanish horses. Studying their behavior at rest and play became her equine classroom, inspiring Sylvia to adopt liberty as a chosen way of communicating with horses. “I listen to what they tell me,” remarks Sylvia, who uses only body positions and a handful of verbal cues to communicate with 8-10 horses on stage - one third of which are stallions.

Born in Sarasota, Florida, Sylvia grew up with her parents on tour. Her father, was a wild animal trainer. Like her mother, a famous trapeze artist, Sylvia took to the air as a girl, but horses were her true passion. At an age when most teens get a driver’s license, Sylvia was professionally training and performing with liberty horses. Sylvia calls the horses themselves her greatest mentors. She coined the phrase Grande Liberté (French for grand liberty) specifically for liberty exhibitions involving more than six horses - her specialty.

The Carriage Festival will also feature pleasure drives throughout the Horse Park (for those entered in the pleasure-driving show, or not), a parade of carriages on Sunday, educational talks, a trade fair, and social activities. Both restored antique carriages and antique cars will be on display and vying for People’s Choice Awards.
