LEXINGTON, KY—Metropolitan Opera star Denyce Graves will entertain audiences in a special performance in the Opening Ceremonies of the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games.
The 2010 Games will feature world championship competitions in eight equestrian sports at the Kentucky Horse Park from September 25 through October 10. The Games will be the largest sporting event in America this year and are renowned to be the world’s most prestigious equestrian competition.
“I am delighted to come back to the Commonwealth of Kentucky and to have the opportunity to share my voice with the participants and fans of these World Equestrian Games,” said Graves. “I am particularly excited to be here with my daughter, Ella, who loves horses and is looking forward to a great experience in Lexington.”
Graves has captivated audiences all over the world as one of the most renowned mezzo-sopranos. Making her debut at the Metropolitan Opera in 1995, Graves has starred as the title role in famed operas such as Carmen, and Samson and Delilah. Graves has had the opportunity to perform in front of dignitaries and royals, including a papal visit, several presidential inaugurations, and a memorial service for victims of 9/11.
“Dencye Graves , who represents the epitome and elegance of classical music is an incredible coup for the Opening Ceremonies and we couldn’t be more thrilled to bring her exquisite talent and presence to our audience,” said Dr. Everett McCorvey, whose company, Global Creative Connection, is producing the ceremonies.
Graves will be one of several guests to perform in the Opening Ceremonies of the 2010 Games. The Opening Ceremonies will also feature more than 200 horses, a symphony orchestra and chorale, all will showcase Kentucky’s, and America’s, equestrian and musical heritage to the world.
Additional entertainment acts for Opening and Closing Ceremonies will be announced throughout the summer.

The Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games are the world championships of eight equestrian disciplines recognized by the Fédération Equestre Internationale (FEI). Her Royal Highness Princess Haya is the current president of the FEI. The Games are held every four years and this will be the first occurrence in the United States.
