High Hope Steeplechase

Event Description: 

The High Hope Steeplechase is a jump-racing event benefiting the Kentucky Horse Park Foundation and Central Kentucky Riding for Hope. Along with the steeplechase races, terrier races, pony relays and the parade of the Woodford Hounds will also be taking place. Tailgating is encouraged. Pony Relay – Race 1
Limited to six entries. Cantering permitted. Ponies 14.2 hands and under. Must be a member of the US Pony Club. Entries must be approved by race chairman. Entry fee $25.

Pony Relay - Race 2
Limited to six entries. Trotting only. Ponies 14.2 hands and under. Must be a member of the US Pony Club. Entries must be approved by race chairman. Entry fee $25.

FIRST RACE
The David T. Greathouse Memorial Race
(Maiden Claiming Hurdle)
Purse $15,000. Hurdle. For Maidens, Four Years Old and Upward.
Four-year-olds, 146 lbs.; older, 156 lbs. Claiming Price $25,000. For each $2,500 to $20,000, allowed 4 lbs. Entry fee $75; $75 additional if not scratched on time Wednesday; with $150 additional to start.
Two Miles and One Furlong over National Fences.

SECOND RACE
The Jay Trump
(Starter Allowance Hurdle)
Purse $20,000. Hurdle. For Four-Year-Olds and Upward which have started over hurdles for a claiming price of $20,000 or less in 2013- 2014. Four-year-olds, 148 lbs; older, 158 lbs. Non-winners of two races in 2014, allowed 4 lbs; of two races in 2013-14, 8 lbs; of a race in 2014, 12 lbs.; of a race in 2013-2014, 16 lbs. (Maiden races not considered). Entry fee $100; $100 additional if not scratched on time Wednesday; with $200 additional to start.

THIRD RACE
(Maiden Hurdle)
Purse $20,000. Hurdle. For Maidens, Four Years Old and Upward.
Four-year-olds, 144 lbs.; older, 154 lbs. Entry fee $100; $100 additional if not scratched on time Wednesday; with $200 additional to start.
Two Miles and One Furlong over National Fences.

FOURTH RACE
The Bluegrass Farm Challenge Steeplechase
(Invitational Maiden Claiming Hurdle)
Purse $15,000. Hurdle. For Maidens, Four-Years-Old and Upward. Four-year-olds, 146 lbs.; older, 156 lbs. Claiming Price $15,000. For each $1,000 to $10,000, allowed 2 lbs. Limited to horses bred in Kentucky and which are currently competing on the NSA circuit. Preference given to horses bred at participating Bluegrass Farm Challenge Farms. This is an NSA sanctioned race. All participating owners, trainers and riders must be licensed by the NSA and abide by NSA rules and regulations. Entry Fee $75. $75 additional if not scratched on time Wednesday; with $150 additional to start. For this race only, horses and riders must be named by Thursday, May 8, 2014. Post Position will be drawn Monday, May 12, 2014.

FIFTH RACE
The NARA "Catch a Riding Star" Apprentice Jockey Challenge
For Three-Year-Olds and Upward. All horses to carry 120 lbs.; Horses, apprentice jockeys and a pace rider to be provided and approved by the North American Racing Academy with permission of the High Hope Steeplechase Board of Stewards. A NARA riders will ride under NSA rules. This is a non-sanctioned race and the result of this race does not count toward a horse's official record. A Full set of racing tack to be awarded to the winning rider;
About Seven Furlongs on the Turf.

SIXTH RACE
Amateur Riders Club of America
(Amateur Training Flat)
For Three-Year-Olds and Upward. To be ridden by amateur jockeys. Three-year-olds, 150 lbs.; older, 160 lbs. Entry fee $50. The result of this race does not count toward a horse’s official record. A $1,000 award to the owner and the trainer of the winner.
One Mile and One Half on the Turf.

TRAINER BONUS AWARDS
Trainers’ bonuses awarded to the three most successful trainers of the day - $1,200, $750 and $500 on a points system as follows: 4 points for the winner; 3 points for second; 2 points for third; and 1 point for each starter.
A shipper’s reward of $200 will be given to any non-placing horse shipped more than 300 miles for the High Hope Races.

JOCKEY AWARD
The Jonathan Kiser Perpetual Trophy will be awarded to the jockey who wins the most jump races at High Hope. The winner will receive $1,000 and a Julep Cup. The winner’s name will be engraved on a perpetual trophy.
