KDA Kearney Cancer 5K and Fun Walk

Event Description: 

KDA Kearney Cancer 5K and Fun Walk, hosted by the Kentucky Dressage Association on Saturday, May 24th at the Kentucky Horse Park, will offer $1,000 in prize money and invites the public to attend an evening of family fun and entertainment.

The 5K and Fun Walk onsite registration and check in will open at 4:30 pm and the start time is 5:30 pm. Individuals of all ages may enter the one mile fun walk.  All proceeds will benefit cancer research at the Markey Cancer Center. New for this year adding to the evening festivities is a “Most Creative Dog Costume” contest to be held immediately prior to the race. 

Along with the $1,000 in prize money for the top three male and female 5K runners, awards will be presented in seven different age divisions, and awards to winners ten and under in the one mile run/walk. All participants are welcome to stay and have free admission to watch the KDA dressage freestyles (horses dancing to music) in the Rolex Arena. Dressage musical freestyle is an exciting combination of the technical and artistic aspects of dressage. Runners and non-runners are invited to enjoy a catered buffet dinner for purchase with cash bar during the freestyles.

Runners and walkers interested in participating in the 5K may register at www.RunSignUp.com. Early registration fee is $25 and includes a T-shirt if received by May 16th. Late registrants are not guaranteed a t-shirt at the race. Additionally participants may register for the buffet dinner ($20) following the race. Dogs must be on a leash at all times. Bluegrass Classic Dog Show

Event Description: 

The Bluegrass Classic Dog Show is a 5-day dog show sponsored by the Lexington Kennel Club Inc., the Northern Kentucky Kennel Club Inc., and the Mid-Kentucky Kennel Club Inc. This show will include breed classes, sporting classes, best-in-show competition, junior showmanship classes, and obedience classes. Health clinics, AKC Owner-Handler Series, Canine Good -Citizen competition, and a Meet- the -Breeds event will also take place. Admission to the show is $5 per person. Ultimate Outdoor Expo

The Ultimate Outdoor Expo is a 3-day event showcasing outdoor sports. Vendors will be displaying and selling outdoor sporting products such as hunting supplies, fishing tackle, ATV’s and guns. There will also be seminars and live demonstrations at the expo. Tickets are $12 for adults and $6 for kids if purchased at the gate, online tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children (available through August 22). University of Kentucky 4H Horse Judging Contest

The University of Kentucky is conducting the State 4H Horse Judging Contest which will serve as a qualifying event for the Southern Regional 4H Horse Judging Contest. 4H members are given 4 live horses to judge for a particular purpose, they must judge the horse based on confirmation and in-hand movement. The participants must rank the 4 horses from best suited to least suited for the particular purpose and reasons on why they made that choice must also be listed.
