CRAVE SUNDAY FARE: SMOKE & STRINGS

Event Description: 

Crave Lexington, Lexington's food + music festival dedicated to "made-from-scratch," presents the second annual Crave Sunday Fare, a pop-up event in advance of the September 13-14 Crave Lexington food + music festival.

This year's Sunday Fare is themed Smoke & Strings. Four top-notch local chefs have come together to create a decadent, 4-course, family-style brunch around the general theme of "smoked;" live music from Lexington folk / Americana outfit Small Batchwill provide the strings.

The event kicks off at 2 p.m., with a Kentucky Proud Cocktail Hour, followed by a 4-course meal featuring a trio of smoked summer soups created by chef John Fosterand his Sullivan University protègès Will Ulsted and Laura Vogel; a "bluegrass banchan" from chef Mark Jensen (Fork in the Road mobile galley and forthcoming Distillery District restaurant middle fork kitchen bar); a tantalizing main course (meat and vegetarian options will both be available) from Kentucky Horse Park chef Adam Wade; and a delectable dessert featuring smoked fruit pies by James C. South, of the soon-to-open central Kentucky restaurant Solidago.

The meal will be served family style in the idyllic and intimate setting of the Kentucky Horse Park Grotto.

KDA Kearney Cancer 5K and Fun Walk

Event Description: 

KDA Kearney Cancer 5K and Fun Walk, hosted by the Kentucky Dressage Association on Saturday, May 24th at the Kentucky Horse Park, will offer $1,000 in prize money and invites the public to attend an evening of family fun and entertainment.

The 5K and Fun Walk onsite registration and check in will open at 4:30 pm and the start time is 5:30 pm. Individuals of all ages may enter the one mile fun walk.  All proceeds will benefit cancer research at the Markey Cancer Center. New for this year adding to the evening festivities is a “Most Creative Dog Costume” contest to be held immediately prior to the race. 

Along with the $1,000 in prize money for the top three male and female 5K runners, awards will be presented in seven different age divisions, and awards to winners ten and under in the one mile run/walk. All participants are welcome to stay and have free admission to watch the KDA dressage freestyles (horses dancing to music) in the Rolex Arena. Dressage musical freestyle is an exciting combination of the technical and artistic aspects of dressage. Runners and non-runners are invited to enjoy a catered buffet dinner for purchase with cash bar during the freestyles.

Runners and walkers interested in participating in the 5K may register at www.RunSignUp.com. Early registration fee is $25 and includes a T-shirt if received by May 16th. Late registrants are not guaranteed a t-shirt at the race. Additionally participants may register for the buffet dinner ($20) following the race. Dogs must be on a leash at all times. AKC Tracking Dog Test and Tracking Dog Excellence Test

Event Description: 

The AKC Tracking Dog Test and Tracking Dog Excellence Test are put on by Lexington Kennel Club. These tests are the competition form of canine search and rescue. A scent track is laid with multiple changes of direction for the dog to follow to an item left at the end of the track. The dog will earn titles at the completion of each type of tracking test. Upon completion of the AKC Tracking Dog Test, the dog will receive a TD or Tracking Dog Title. Upon completion of the Tracking Dog Excellence Test the dog will receive a TDX or Tracking Dog Excellence Title. Bluegrass Classic Dog Show

The Bluegrass Classic Dog Show is a 5-day dog show sponsored by the Lexington Kennel Club Inc., the Northern Kentucky Kennel Club Inc., and the Mid-Kentucky Kennel Club Inc. This show will include competition for more than 150 breeds, best-in-show competition, junior showmanship classes, and obedience and rally. AKC Owner-Handler Series, Canine Good Citizen Test, and a Meet the Breeds event will also take place Saturday and Sunday, plus a 4-H Dog Club Musical Program on Saturday. Admission to the show is $5 per carload, and Kentucky Horse Park parking is $5.
